Pumpkin Cat Crochet Pattern — Halloween Amigurumi Kitten
About this pattern
A round grey kitten sitting inside a carved jack-o'-lantern, wearing a tiny pumpkin hat of his own. Paws hooked over the rim, yellow eyeliner, pink inner ears — he fits in one hand at about 12 cm (4.7 in) tall and is very hard to put down.
What you get
- 13-page PDF, instant download after purchase
- Around 48 step photos — every piece, the face embroidery and the full assembly shown stage by stage
- US crochet terms, round by round with stitch counts in brackets on every line
- A photo walkthrough of the designer's glue method for securing yarn tails on tiny pieces
The build
The cat is a single stuffed head with 10 mm safety eyes set between rounds 15 and 16, then given his face entirely in embroidery — whiskers, a little V nose, a curved mouth, and a yellow line around the outer half of each eye that reads as eyeliner and gives him the whole expression. Ears are worked flat-ish with separate pink inner-ear pieces laid on top.
The pumpkin uses half double crochet increases and decreases to get a proper squat pumpkin silhouette rather than a ball, and its five segments are pulled in with the long tail after stuffing — the pattern shows exactly where each pass goes. The jack-o'-lantern face is three crocheted pieces (two eyes, one mouth) glued or sewn on, with the teeth embroidered over the top.
The pumpkin hat is a small back-loop base with its own stem, leaf and an optional curled vine — wrap the vine around something round for a few hours and it holds the curl. It sits on the cat's head between his ears.
Skills & materials
- Intermediate. Magic ring, sc, hdc, dc, inc/dec, BLO and a fair amount of small-piece assembly and embroidery
- #2 sport weight cotton (the designer uses Bali) — dark grey, black, soft pink, yellow, dark brown, olive green and terracotta
- 2.5 mm hook, tapestry needle, stitch marker, stuffing
- 10 mm safety eyes with washers, hot glue gun. Optional: ball-head pins for assembly and a scrap of black felt for the eyeliner
The designer glues some parts — the pattern notes which, and recommends sewing everything instead if the finished toy is going to a child.
