Pumpkin Bear Crochet Pattern — Halloween Amigurumi Teddy
About this pattern
A soft beige teddy sitting inside a fat orange pumpkin, with a tiny pumpkin hat perched between his ears and a green stem on top. He fits in two cupped hands. The pumpkin isn't a costume he's wearing — it's his whole body, which is what makes him read as one creature rather than a bear holding a prop.
What you get
- 5-page PDF, instant download after purchase
- US crochet terms, laid out as clean round-by-round tables with the stitch count in its own column
- Photographs of the finished bear from four angles, including a close-up of the face and one of the hat from above
- Assembly notes covering the order the pieces go together
The build
The pumpkin body is a 25-round sphere worked from an 8-stitch magic ring out to 56 stitches, held straight for twelve rounds, then decreased back down and closed with a reverse magic ring so there's no puckered hole at the base. The segments are pulled in afterwards: thread a long tail onto a needle, pass it from the centre of the base up through to the centre of the top, pull firm, and repeat evenly around until you have the number of ribs you like — eight gives the shape in the photos.
The head is a separate 48-stitch ball with 8 mm bead safety eyes set between rounds 13 and 14, five stitches apart, and a small 18-stitch muzzle sewn on close to the eyes with the nose embroidered before it goes on.
The ears use a half-closed magic ring — you work eight stitches into the ring but deliberately don't pull it fully shut, leaving part of it straight, then chain one, turn and work back. That gives a flat ear with a straight base that sits against the head properly instead of a cupped circle you have to fold.
The hat is its own mini pumpkin: a 24-stitch base finished with a back-loop round for a crisp rim, a stem from a 12-stitch circle, and a little 5-stitch strip sewn on to make the curl.
Skills & materials
- Intermediate. Magic ring, sc, inc, dec, BLO, reverse magic ring, and assembly of eight separate pieces. Nothing exotic, but there's a lot of small sewing
- 8 mm bead safety eyes, stuffing, stitch marker, tapestry needle
- Yarn and hook are yours to choose. The pattern is written to stitch counts rather than a specific yarn — the sample looks like a sport or DK cotton on a small hook. Pick a hook a size or two below your ball band so the stuffing doesn't show through, and the proportions come out the same whatever weight you use
Colours in the photos are terracotta, beige, cream and green, but he works just as well in classic orange or in something completely off-palette.
