About this pattern

A 22 cm (8.5 in) doll in a jack-o'-lantern pinafore, pumpkin beret and lace-up boots, with a little basket for trick-or-treating. She stands on her own, her arms and legs bend, and the whole outfit comes off — this is the big one, the pattern you make when you want a heirloom piece rather than a quick plush.

What you get

  • 22-page PDF, instant download after purchase
  • US crochet terms, round by round with stitch counts on every line
  • Step photos throughout, plus three redrawn stitch diagrams with English labels for the leg join, the body round and the arm join
  • A notes page covering spiral work, working in rows, and the popcorn stitch

What's in the pattern

  • The doll — sculpted head with shaped cheeks and chin, 16 mm safety eyes set into skipped stitches, embroidered nose, crocheted ears and eyebrows, blush and optional lashes
  • Curly hair — 24 long hdc strands worked from a crocheted cap, glued in sections so the front pieces fall loose
  • Legs and boots worked in one — colour-changed striped tights, lace-up boots with a slip-stitch trim and cardboard soles, then joined and continued straight up into the body
  • Wired legs so she stands and poses; arms joined into the body as you crochet, no sewn-on limbs
  • Removable pumpkin pinafore — ribbed pumpkin panels, black felt jack-o'-lantern face, dark brown straps with buttons
  • Pumpkin beret with a curled green stem
  • Trick-or-treat basket with a cardboard base and a black handle

Skills & materials

  • Advanced. Colour changes mid-round, FLO/BLO shaping, popcorn stitch, crochet-as-you-go limb joins, wiring, gluing and finishing. Not a first doll.
  • 2.20 mm hook (2.5 mm for the hat) with Sinfonía cotton in six shades — skin, tobacco, dark brown, deep olive, fresh green, cinnamon, plus a little black
  • 16 mm safety eyes, fiberfill, craft wire, hot glue, black felt, 2 small buttons, cardboard scraps, black and white embroidery thread, blush, optional false lashes

The fine hook and cotton are what give her that tight, doll-like fabric — a bigger hook and yarn will work, and will give you a bigger doll.
