The Granny Square Cardigan Crochet Pattern
About this pattern

Fourteen squares. Seven seams. One cardigan you will wear until it falls apart.
The Granny Square Cardigan is the pattern I wish someone had handed me the first time I wanted one. The stitches were never the hard part β it is chains and double crochets and nothing else. The hard part is the bit almost nobody writes down: how many squares, how big, and where exactly they go.
So that is what this booklet is. Fourteen 20 cm squares, a map showing where each one belongs, seven seams in a specific order, and a sleeve that narrows at the elbow before it flares. The maths is done and checked twice. If your square is 20 cm, the cardigan will fit.
Four colourways, all from the same fourteen squares:
- π Berry Bloom β plum, mulberry and dusty rose on cream
- π Ocean Tiles β deep teal, denim and sea glass
- π« Olive Grove β olive, terracotta, mustard and clay (the cardigan in the photos)
- πΌ Wildflower β a scattered, everything-goes garden palette
Make the first one and you can wear this pattern for years without ever making the same cardigan twice.
Why You'll Love This Pattern:
- Confident beginner, honestly β chain, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet. No shaping to follow, no garment construction to understand. The shape comes from where you put the squares.
- The layout map is the whole point β a diagram of all fourteen squares showing exactly which goes where, so you are never guessing at the assembly stage.
- Two sleeve options β a dramatic bell, or a three-quarter sleeve with a fitted cuff.
- Every seam in order β shoulders, sides, sleeves, then bands. Follow the order and it lies flat.
- Four full colourways with round-by-round shade placement, plus a section on building a palette of your own.
- Sizing that flexes β written in one generous size, with instructions for taking it up or down a whole size by changing the square count.
- A real troubleshooting chapter β rippling bands, squares that don't match, sleeves that twist.
- Sell what you make β sell finished cardigans from this pattern freely, any quantity, online or in person. No licence fee, no permission needed, no limit.
