About this pattern

A big, floppy, cream-coloured goose with a mustard beak and two enormous webbed feet — 45 cm of pure softness, made to be dragged around by one wing.

The Goose is a lovey, not a stuffed toy, and that difference is the whole design. Only the head is stuffed. The body, wings and beak stay completely flat, so the goose drapes over a cot rail, folds into a pram, and settles into a child's arms the way a comfort blanket does.

Why You'll Love This Pattern:

  • The lovey construction is the point — a firm little head above a soft, unstuffed body. The pattern is explicit about what gets stuffing and what does not, which is what separates a proper lovey from a floppy amigurumi.
  • Chenille yarn, worked properly — a 4.0 mm hook with plush yarn gives that cloud-like fabric, and the pattern warns you upfront that chenille hides stitches and a marker is worth the trouble. Small note, saves an hour of recounting.
  • Every round has its stitch count in brackets, head, body, wings, feet, beak and topknot.
  • Big impact, few stitches — 45 cm finished from two and a half skeins, with no complicated shaping anywhere.
  • Embroidered eyes — no safety eyes, no plastic, nothing to work loose. Straight out of the box this is suitable for a very young child.
  • The gift people keep — loveys get named, photographed, and carried until they fall apart. This is the baby-shower present that outlasts every other one.
  • Easy to restyle — grey and orange makes a duck, soft yellow makes a duckling, pale pink makes a flamingo-ish thing entirely of your own.
