About this pattern

A small yellow duckling wearing a green frog hat with googly eyes on top and ties under the chin, carrying a tiny flower bag over one wing. One of those quick makes that turns out far more charming than the page count suggests.

What you get

  • 3-page PDF, instant download after purchase
  • US crochet terms, round by round with the stitch count in brackets on every line
  • Every piece on a single spread — no flipping back and forth
  • A full list of the corrections made in this edition, so you can see exactly what changed

Corrected, not just translated

The original file had several rounds that didn't add up — the wings asked you to work into more stitches than the previous round produced, and one body round used only 34 of its 38 stitches and finished four short of what the next round needed. Those rounds have been reworked so every count is consistent from start to finish, with the original decrease placement preserved. The changes are listed openly at the end of the pattern rather than quietly folded in.

A materials list and assembly notes have also been added — the original had neither.

The build

The duckling is a head and a body worked separately and sewn together. The head has a shaped brow — rounds 11 and 15 put four increases either side of a centre panel and take them out again, which gives the face its slightly flattened, cheeky look instead of a plain ball.

The body has a neat trick at round 7: two double-crochet increases worked at front and back push the chest out in a single round, so the duckling sits with a bit of a belly rather than straight-sided.

The frog hat is worked in double crochet from a 12-stitch ring, then a back-loop round makes a crisp ridge and the final round doubles every stitch to flare the brim. Two flat green eye pieces with dark centres sit on top, and two 40-chain ties fasten it under the chin. The flower bag is a five-petal flower worked with the yarn held double on a 53-chain strap.

Skills & materials

  • Beginner-friendly. Magic ring, sc, hdc, dc, inc, dec, BLO and one round of bobbles for the feet
  • Yellow, green, orange, white and black yarn, plus a scrap of a contrast colour for the bag
  • Safety eyes or black thread, fibrefill, tapestry needle, stitch marker
  • Yarn and hook are your choice — worked in 4-ply cotton on a 2.5 mm hook the duckling stands about 13 cm tall; go thicker for a bigger one
