About this pattern

A cream lace jumper with wide balloon sleeves, a soft V neckline and ribbed cuffs — worked flat in six simple pieces, then seamed. Five sizes, XS to XL.

This is a 10-page PDF in US crochet terms. The body is honest double crochet: four rectangles (two front, two back) worked straight for twenty-odd rows and then shaped with a single decrease at alternating ends, which gives the sloped shoulder and the V at the front without any complicated counting. The sleeves carry all the lace. A six-round repeat stacks solid double crochet against chain mesh and a round of puff stitch clusters worked into chain arches, so the sleeve goes translucent and full while the body stays dense and opaque.

Sizing — five sizes, properly worked out

The sample is a size S at 56 cm chest width, 44 cm long plus 2.5 cm ribbing, with a 48 cm sleeve plus 4 cm cuff. The pattern then gives the exact stitch adjustment for each other size — five fewer stitches per panel for XS (50 cm), seven more for M (64 cm), eleven more for L (69–70 cm), fourteen more for XL (74 cm) — and tells you where to add rounds for extra length. Each of the six pieces is drawn as a labelled schematic with its finished dimensions on it, so you can check your work against a diagram rather than guessing.

Yarn and gauge

  • Cotton / linen blend DK — the sample uses CotLin (70% Tanguis cotton, 30% linen) in Swan, 16 balls
  • Total yardage: 1950–2000 yards (1800 m)
  • 4.5 mm hook (US size 7)
  • Gauge: 16 stitches = 4 inches
  • Yarn needle for seaming

Any yarn of the same weight and yardage will substitute — the pattern says so and names a widely available cotton DK as an alternative.

Construction

Crochet two front panels, two back panels and two sleeves. Seam each sleeve, then work the ribbing around the cuff in front post and back post double crochet and finish with a picot edging. Join the front pair and the back pair with single crochet on the right side, so the seam reads as a deliberate line down the centre. Join shoulders and underarms, work the same ribbing around the hem, edge the neckline, and set the sleeves in.

Skills used

Double crochet, dc2tog, chain mesh, puff stitch, front post and back post double crochet, picot edging, and seaming with single crochet. The puff stitch is written out in full in the abbreviations. Comfortable beginners who have made a scarf can manage this; there is no shaping more complex than a single decrease.
