Strawberry Tote Bag & Drawstring Pouch Crochet Pattern — 2-in-1 Granny Square Set
About this pattern
A pink granny-square tote with strawberries appliquéd across the front, plus a matching little drawstring pouch. Two projects in one file — a 14" × 14" tote and a 6" × 5" pouch — in a palette of baby pink, dark pink, cherry red and tea leaf green, with tiny lemon-coloured seeds embroidered onto every berry.
What you get
- 49-page PDF, instant download after purchase — the most thoroughly photographed pattern we stock
- Two complete projects: the tote bag and the drawstring pouch
- US crochet terms, written row by row and round by round with stitch counts
- A photo of nearly every single step — the appliqué, each granny-square join, the drawstring weave, the border and the handle attachment all shown rather than described
- A diagram version of the square-joining layout, so you can see the whole panel map at once
- Colour reference pages at the end showing the exact yarn shades used
Why it's this long
Because it shows you everything. Joining nine granny squares into a panel is the step most patterns cover in a sentence and most makers get wrong — here it runs across twenty pages, square by numbered square, with a photo at each stage and a separate walkthrough for the front panel (single crocheted, so the seams show as a design feature) and the back panel (sewn, so the seams disappear). You get both methods, which means you can choose the look you want rather than just the one you know.
The same goes for the drawstring: rather than "weave the cord through", you get six photographed steps covering both sides and the knot.
The build
Each granny square is four rounds from a magic ring, out to 64 stitches and 4 corner spaces. You make eighteen in total — nine for the front panel, nine for the back — plus two more for the pouch.
The strawberries are worked flat as little tapered pieces, each one sewn on with surface lines and finished with individually embroidered seeds in lace-weight thread, which is what gives them their detail at this scale. Leaves and stems are separate pieces.
The bag is finished with a double-crochet border around both panels, joined down the sides, then two long handles sewn on — the handle attachment gets its own photographed section.
Skills & materials
- Advanced beginner. Granny squares, sc, hdc, dc, tr, inc/dec, plus sewing pieces together and attaching appliqué. No shaping to speak of — the difficulty is in the assembly, which is exactly what the photos are for
- Red Heart Super Saver (worsted / size 4): Cherry Red #0319, Tea Leaf #0624, Baby Pink #4602, Perfect Pink #0706
- White worsted (Crafter's Secret Big Idea #01) and lace-weight cotton thread in lemon (#145) for the seeds
- 4.00 mm (G-6) hook, curved-tip yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers, optional pins and beads
Sizes vary a little with your yarn brand — the pattern says so up front and gives its own measurements as the reference.
